Leaving Nauvoo early in the morning, we were traveling the road that runs alongside the Mississippi River. We encountered a sight we had never seen before; beautiful large white birds with bright orange beaks that looked like pelicans. There were thousands of them hugging the banks. They are probably migrating. It never occurred to us to pack the bird book...
